Mark Valade
(Co-facilitates the Negative Body Image In Relationships workshops and retreats)
Mark has facilitated mixed gender groups on personal growth, self-awareness, organizational dynamics and diversity in and out of corporate settings. He is an experienced body worker and believes we communicate with how we move. Our movement, in turn, reflects how we feel about our bodies and ourselves.
Nomi's personal statement:
I began working with clients who were struggling with disordered eating because of my own personal experience. I have spent most of my life in a body that is larger than average. After 15+ years on one starvation diet or another, only to be followed by severe bingeing, I was forced to learn how to face what was motivating this cycle. I learned about intuitive eating and how to come to peace with my larger body. Along with my personal experience, I have many years of professional training and 18 years of working directly with women and men who struggle with their own disordered eating. I have gained valuable insights into the many approaches required for healing this painful relationship with food and our bodies.
As a woman of size, I bring another component of understanding and sensitivity to my work with clients. I deeply value the Size Acceptance Movement and the Health At Every Size principles. It is important to learn to love yourself and to accept your body no matter what size it is and to not put off living your life until you fit-in just right. When people of size receive respect and acceptance it supports all of us to feel better about ourselves!
